ABOUT THIS PIECE
This understated hanaire (flower vase) is crafted from a single section of bamboo, shaped into a clean cylindrical form and finished in a deep, warm brown tone. Its simplicity highlights the natural beauty of the material, with subtle variations in texture and color enhancing its quiet presence.
Inside, a copper container allows for practical use with water, making the piece fully functional while preserving the integrity of the bamboo. The restrained design reflects a wabi-sabi sensibility, where modesty and natural imperfection become central aesthetic elements.
CULTURAL NOTE
Bamboo hanaire have long been used in ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), particularly in more informal or natural settings. Unlike ceramic or bronze vases, bamboo pieces emphasize seasonality and the living character of materials, often chosen to complement rather than dominate the arrangement.
