ABOUT THIS PIECE
This elegant bentōjū (lacquered food box) is crafted in wood and decorated with delicate gold maki-e motifs, depicting flowing water and stylized vegetation. The composition is both refined and dynamic, characteristic of early 20th-century lacquerware intended for both everyday use and special occasions.
The set remains remarkably complete, comprising multiple fitted compartments, a lid, three small serving trays, and a lacquered spoon. A dedicated side section for chopsticks further enhances its functionality as a portable dining set. The presence of a handle allows the entire ensemble to be carried with ease, reflecting the balance between practicality and aesthetic refinement that defines such objects.
