ABOUT THIS PIECE
This refined Japanese bamboo flower basket (hanakago 花籠) features a rounded, bulbous body decorated with a precise herringbone weave (yagasuri-gumi 矢絣組). The broad curves of the basket are carefully balanced by a strong braided rim and twin side knots, combining strength with elegance.
The basket’s warm reddish-brown patina enhances the depth of the weave, emphasizing its craftsmanship. Its sturdy form and wide mouth make it particularly suitable for ikebana arrangements that highlight seasonal flowers in a formal setting.
CULTURAL NOTE
